Job Description

Reporting to the Scientific Platforms Manager, the Data Analyst position will assist with the computational analysis of basic and complex data sets high-end 'Omics, flow cytometry, imaging and experimental data. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with advanced specialists, bioinformaticians and researchers to develop and implement data QC and analysis protocols 
  • Establish a repository for data analysis protocols 
  • Assist with data management and storage workslfows
  • Develop and maintain manuals and associated documentation including Standard Operations Procedures
  • Assist and train medical researchers to analyse basic and complex data using established and novel computational biology methods and tools
  • Provide guidance and input into experimental design and data analysis requirements for grant proposals
  • Create, run, troubleshoot and deploy scripts to answer research questions
  • Introduce developed methods of data visualisation for presentations and publications

Desired Skills and Experience

Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications of at least a Bachelor’s Degree in computing, bioinformatics or an equivalent recognised qualification and experience in data analysis
  • Master or PhD qualifications are highly desirable
  • A minimum of two years in the analysis and interpretation of complex, quantitative biological data

Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong analytical, programming skills in R, Python, Matlab
  • Experience implementing quality assurance processes to ensure data quality
  • Able to independently solve problems and manage competing work priorities
  • Able to communicate effectively with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Prior experience working in high-performance computing environments (academic or cloud-based) is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying open-source software and reproducible data analyses will be highly regarded
