Postdoctoral Fellow - Military HIV Research Program

HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Laboratory of Vaccine Immunology located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD.  HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to WRAIR.

Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects independently and in collaboration with a research team. Pursues research along a focused line of inquiry towards manuscript development.  Specific research projects will investigate adaptive immune responses to inform HIV-1 vaccine and therapeutic strategies against viral infections, including assessment of virus-specific T cells in the setting of infection and vaccination through application of cutting-edge flow cytometry and transcriptomics.

Responsibilities:

  1. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs and executes scientific research.  Processes and interprets experimental data. (70%)
  2. Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards. (20%)
  3. Prepares written reports and prepares data for presentations at scientific meetings and for manuscripts for submission to scientific journals. (10%)
  4. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of immunology, virology (ideally HIV-1), and vaccines;
  • ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Experience in flow cytometry, molecular biology, and standard laboratory techniques is required.
  • He/she should have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong publication record as evidenced by first-author publications in virology, immunology, or cell biology.
  • They should have the ability to work in an independent capacity, be able to design experiments, and troubleshoot technical procedures.

  • Doctorate (Academic) or better.
