Job Description Summary:

The GW Flow Cytometry Core Facility is a service core providing researchers access to well characterized cytometry equipment for cell sorting and cell analysis, as well as services in data analysis, instrument training and cytometry education.
The core is expanding to support our rapidly growing research community and is seeking a full-time Senior Research Assistant. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the manager in the daily operation of the facility.

This senior research support position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures, making detailed observations, and assisting senior level researchers analyze data and interpret results. This role may compile routine results, may contribute to technical reports and documentation of outcomes, and assists with the preparation of results for publication. This role has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field, and performs activities similar to those of a Research Assistant but is more experienced and independent. Other responsibilities include:
• Operates and maintains cell analyzers and cell sorters.

  • Assists in training users in the operation of the flow cytometers;
  • Assists in general laboratory management (inventory, ordering of supplies, implementation of lab safety policies);
  • Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills are a must for this position since it will require interactions with a diversity of scientists and vendor representatives;
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Must be able to multitask and be flexible;
  • BS degree in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology or related field.
