Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

Digestive Molecular and Clinical Oncology Unit, University of Verona, Italy

Postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Digestive Molecular and Clinical Oncology leaded by Prof. Davide Melisi at the Department of Medicine, University of Verona in Verona, Italy.

The Melisi laboratory focuses on identifying alterations with functional significance to the development, progression and treatment resistance of gastrointestinal cancers and translating results from basic, omic and preclinical studies into novel clinical trials for cancer patients.

Current ongoing research areas of interest include:

1. Dissecting Smad-dependent and Smad-independent TGFβ signaling pathways for the treatment of pancreatic cancer
2. Identification of the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for the evasive resistance of gastric cancer to anti-angiogenic therapy
3. Molecular Profiling of Cell-Free DNA in Pancreatic and Gastric Cancer
4. Novel strategies with immunotherapeutic and DNA damage inhibitors in biliary and pancreatic cancer.

REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking applicants who are highly motivated, self-starters with strong bench skills, and can work independently. Candidates must have PhD or MD/PhD degree in biological sciences with a strong research background in molecular biology and immunology, cancer genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics or related fields, including designing and performing experiments involving animal models, siRNA gene silencing, flow cytometry, IP-western, kinase assay, mammalian cell transfection techniques, PCR and next generation sequencing.

The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment focused on clinical and translational research. Specific responsibilities include planning, designing, completing and troubleshooting experiments. The candidate will be expected to prepare technical summaries for use in proposals, protocols, presentations at internal and national meetings, and publication of research papers. The candidate will be expected to make and record detailed observations, and maintain a complete and thorough laboratory notebook.

Candidates having up to two years of postdoctoral experience with first-authored publication(s) in respected journal are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a high level of written and oral communication skills in English.
