Job Description

Lecturer in Immunology

Led by an ambitious research and development strategy, we are seeking to build upon our established strengths. As part of this initiative, the School of Life and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint a new early career colleague who will contribute to the Immunology research, impact and teaching profile of Biosciences at Aston University.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Immunology, or a closely related area and have a strong research profile that will complement our internationally-recognised research in Bioscience.  In addition, they will be able to evidence an independent or strongly developing research programme, preferably including external research funding and publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed journals and the ability to develop internationally-recognised activity.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals with research and teaching interests in the cell biology of innate and/or adaptive immunity; and the mechanisms of immune modulation and cell communication in health and disease. and from those who are able to demonstrate a developing track record of effective teaching and an enthusiasm for flexible teaching across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (Biochemistry, Biological and Biomedical Sciences) within the department.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the  necessary teamwork skills to foster collaboration with existing Immunology and Cell Biology colleagues and to build links both within the University and externally, including the aptitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development.

In their application, individuals should clearly state how their appointment will build critical mass within the Department and support the University mission through high quality, exploitable research that is accessible for business and has a positive impact on society.

Potential applicants may wish to contact the Head of Biosciences, Professor Andrew Devitt (0121-204 4165; email: a.devitt1@aston.ac.uk) for informal discussion about the post before applying.
