Flow Cytometry Technologist/Director

Job Profile Summary:
This position requires advanced technical and scientific expertise in flow cytometry and cell sorting, and the ability to work collaboratively with investigators in a BSL-2/3 research facility. The candidate will operate all flow cytometry equipment, train users and junior Core staff, consult on experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and assist with the execution of experiments. This position serves as the leader of the daily Flow Cytometry Core operations and reports to the Director for Shared Resources.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and manage flow cytometry analyzers and cell sorters, including instrument QA/QC and scheduling.
- Supervise, mentor, and expertly train junior Core members.
- Train users for application-specific flow cytometry equipment operation in BSL2/3 environment.
- Advise users on experimental protocols, preparation of samples, analysis, and interpretation of data.
- Participate in grant and manuscript writing.
- Establish and maintain a flow cytometry and BSL2/BSL3 biosafety educational program for the user community.
- Write and implement lab policies and standard operating protocols.
- Responsible for the proper maintenance, alignment, calibration and troubleshooting of equipment for specific experimental requirements
- Stay abreast of current best practices and new technological developments in the field.
- Provide top-level customer service.
- Provide general oversight for the facility to the Director for Shared Resources.
Work Experience:
- Demonstrated expertise in polychromatic immunophenotyping and cell sorting, including panel design, equipment operation, data analysis and interpretation, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to advise and guide investigators in multiple research projects, and assist with manuscript and grant writing.
- Experience in overseeing operations in a Flow Cytometry Facility, and the ability to work independently.
- Experience in a BSL2/BSL3 environment is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Education:
- Ph.D. with at least three years of experience in a Flow Cytometry Core Facility is preferred for an appointment at a Director level. Candidates with MS and at least five years of experience or BS and at least ten years of experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Current ASCP Board Certification for Specialist in Cytometry is highly recommended.
