Job Description

Employment opportunities at NHS Test and Trace Lighthouse Laboratories

Technicians, post-docs and graduate students - COVID testing, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Manchester, Newport, Charnwood, and Glasgow, UK

Not flow cytometry-based, but NHS Test and Trace is expanding its network of laboratories in the continued effort against COVID-19. As the UK enters the winter months it is critical to continue to increase laboratory capacity. This expansion has resulted in a number of exciting roles from junior positions utilising a broad skill base, through to senior positions requiring experienced specialists or those able to oversee entire laboratories.

They are looking for individuals who:

  • have lab management experience and/or are a HCPC registered BMS;
  • have experience working in a lab setting (academic, clinical or industrial), regardless of level;
  • have a degree or postgraduate qualifications in a biological discipline;
  • Technicians, post-docs and graduate students with molecular biology experience, to join the existing lighthouse laboratories in Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Manchester, Newport, Charnwood, and Glasgow. We need over 400 technicians immediately, preferably conversant with PCR assay techniques (qRT-PCR and ePCR);
  • or are a current student with some previous lab experience, particularly in virology, microbiology, or biomedical sciences and you are seeking part time employment. Minimum requirements are experience in pipetting and operating within biosafety cabinets.

Roles will be for between 1-18 months depending on the requirement. Pay is offered at competitive market rates and you will be fully trained and integrated into existing teams. Employment will be either directly with laboratories or through third party agencies to enable flexible working arrangements to suit you. All are employed to support the work of the wider NHS Test and Trace programme.
