|Salary:||2725 - 4321 euro gross|
|Line 1:||Amsterdam UMC|
Within the department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology of the VUmc, a position is vacant for a facility operator as member of the advanced cytometry facility. You will supervise daily operations in the facility, provide technical and scientific support, and train researchers on the use of cytometry equipment and the associated analysis methods. You will implement projects for method development and innovation in the field of advanced cytometry and will provide advice to researchers on the use of the appropriate techniques fitting their scientific needs. Also, you will scout for new developments in the field of cytometry and provide advice to the department on possible new cytometry techniques and equipment. You will keep up to date of recent developments in the field of cytometry by attending relevant (international) symposia, you will maintain contacts with suppliers and your network, and conduct literature research. You will also advise and guide researchers, have contacts with both national and international experts, and organize and give practical training in the field of advanced cytometry.
You have extensive scientific and technical experience in the field of cytometry, from experimental setup and panel design to instrument operation and data analysis. Knowledge of advanced data analysis methods for high dimensional cytometry data and proficiency in computational tools is a must. Expertise in single cell sequencing, mass cytometry, and sorting (using BD instruments Influx and AriaFusion) is an advantage. You have good organizational and communication skills to advise and support several researchers in the use of advanced cytometry techniques and data analysis. You are able to implement innovations in the field well and quickly. It is an advantage to have completed a doctoral research that uses relevant cytometry research methodologies.
Your work environment
The Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology at the VUmc carries out research at an internationally competitive level and offers a stimulating working environment. The research of the department concentrates on immunological questions about immune regulation and inflammation. The research focuses on both, fundamental questions aimed at unraveling molecular and cellular mechanisms and, translational research focusing on application of fundamental knowledge to medical questions.
The department shares high-end cytometry equipment via the core facility O2Flow (O2 Flow facility MCBI). O2Flow’s mission is to provide access to state-of-the-art technologies, services, and expertise in flow, imaging, and mass cytometry in order to enhance scientific discovery in fundamental and translational research at the VUmc and the O|2 Research Building. To do so, we are equipped with the latest technology in multicolor flow cytometry analyzers (also including spectral flow, up to 4 laser systems, autosampling, and acoustic focusing), sorters (both jet-in-air with small particle add-on and cuvette-based 5 laser systems), imaging flow cytometry, single cell sequencing, and mass cytometry. O2Flow’s team is composed by a Scientific Director and four operators (including this position) who, besides maintaining high operational standards in the instrumentation of the facility, provide a consulting function to researchers and give input in experimental set up strategies, data analysis, user training, and operation support.
