Research Associate – Flow cytometry

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated and highly detail-oriented research associate with a proven background in multi-parameter flow cytometry (analysis and sorting) to join our exciting antibody discovery pipeline.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing, overseeing and operating our BD Fusion SORP sorter
  • Management and use of other flow cytometers at Petmedix
  • Processing tissues to generate single cell suspension and staining cells for flow cytometry
  • Bead based cell purification
  • Support with optimising the cell isolation pipeline including generation, QC and testing of cell sorting probes (eg. Fluorescent proteins)
  • Data analysis, particularly of flow cytometry data
  • Maintenance of accurate records in ELN and LIMS systems
  • Effective communication of results

Essential skills

  • Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area (like Immunology or Cell Biology), or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience with multi-parameter flow cytometry
  • Substantial experience managing and operating flow cytometers (analysers and sorters)
  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies and protocols
  • Ability to work independently
  • Trouble shooting skills
  • Proactive attitude and drive
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Organised with good time management skills

Desirable skills

  • Experience in using the BD Fusion SORP sorter
  • Prior knowledge of B cell biology
  • Strong background knowledge in immunology
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with bead-based cell isolation
  • Prior experience in generating cell sorting probes
  • Prior experience of developing therapeutic antibodies
